Also as a result of the launch of Maqta Gateway, Abu Dhabi Ports is the first organisation in the GCC region, and the 26th worldwide to become a member of the International Port Community Systems Association (IPCSA).
Initial operations through the PCS commenced on 16 December 2015. Stage I, currently ongoing, is specific to shipping lines and shipping agents. By adopting the “one-stop-shop” concept, it offers shipping lines, shipping agents, customs agents, terminal operators and other government agencies with a single point of access and real-time information across a wide range of services.
Additionally, the whole port community system will significantly enhance communication procedures, schedules, cargo tracking and processing times. And all information can be accessed online. “Maqta Gateway will play a prominent role in facilitating the growing import and export activities, positioning Abu Dhabi as a major business hub in the region,” said Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports.
Maqta Gateway takes its name from the Maqta Bridge, which was the first crossing to connect Abu Dhabi Island with the mainland. And this namesake project is a bridge too, in a certain sense of the word – a bridge to future business opportunities.
