Palácio Estoril Hotel
2769 - 504 Estoril
Located in the heart of Estoril, just 20 minutes from the center of Lisbon, the Palácio is a five star hotel set in beautiful gardens and with outstanding views over Estoril and the Bay of Cascais.
From 1930, when the Palácio Estoril Hotel was built, the hotel has hosted numerous members of European royalty, heads of state, emperors and great artists, writers, sports champions, filmmakers, actors and politicians of the world. During World War II, due to Portugal's neutrality, several royal families went into exile in Estoril. It was also the haunt of British and German spies, who could often be found in its bar. Later, these stories of intrigue and espionage inspired famous writers and filmmakers and the hotel served as the set for one of the James Bond movies. *

The 6th movie of the James Bond saga "On Her Majesty’s Secret Service" was largely shot in Portugal. And the James Bond cast has already scoped out the hotel for you. 🙂 They stayed there while shooting the movie in 1968. The exterior of the hotel, the lobby, the pool and the view from the rooms are an integral part of many of the scenes of the film, which was released in 1969. Also, Ian Fleming, the creator of the James Bond character, stayed at the Estoril Palácio Hotel during World War II.*
