So close...to the victory!
March was coming to an end, so it was time for the next round of the quarterly quiz organized by iKid.
Again led by the great host Kenneth Ryan from KPMG, who yet again had to stress the main rules of attending: no phones, his answers are always correct and never forget to have fun because "You don't have to prove you're the most intelligent people in the world." But who doesn't want to be at least better than the others?
To make it little bit more interesting, this time the questions were split into 16 categories and every round of five questions was dedicated to one specific topic.
The raffle was full of great prizes from Slovak companies, such as a programming course from Learn2code, an anti-stress mandala with crayons from LoveLife.design, vouchers from Orbis Street Food, a package of products from Powerlogy and amazing hipster socks from Fusakle, which Ken pronounced as Fuskali :) And finally, the biggest prize for the evening was donated by Regal Burger, who will come to the winners' party or team building to make awesome burgers for everyone. Just under one condition: you have to invite Ken to your burger gathering. :)
The first category picked was geography and our two Fleming. tables came up with a little inside joke, that if you don't know the correct answer, just put Albania there :D Another one was flags, which we as fans of the Fun with Flags series with Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory, knew perfectly. Our table chose the third one and picked music, which was again a category where we felt we might excel. Then there were questions about Russia and we started to slightly miss our colleague Matej Boda, who would most certainly have known all the answers to questions like “What is the slogan of communist propaganda from Marx and Engels?” But we also knew that one: Workers of the world, unite!
After the first four rounds, a surprise...both Fleming. teams tied for first! :)
But then the category “old school days” appeared, which was meant for mostly 30+ year-old people and we felt we might just be too young to remember the peculiar socialist times. :) But I suppose we listened to our moms properly and somehow knew what Jarmilky and Spartakiada are and also we were able to finish the classic Mor ho! poem without a mistake. The category starting with B seemed a little bit tricky, but we were lucky to have our Hungarian-speaking colleague Zuzana Tothova on our team, who knew what sound a frog makes in Hungarian: Bre-ke-ke!
With the literature category, we didn't have problem at all and our girls Stanislava Nichtova and Zuzana Tothova from the book club didn't even bat an eye before giving the right answer to each question. In the eighth category Saint... we used the secret skills of our copywriter Dorota Kovalcikova, who remembered her favorite event on Tunnel Safety and remembered correctly that saint Florian is the guardian of firefighters. And who would have thought that our inside joke would turn serious when the answer to the question “In which country is the Mother Theresa Airport located” was...you guessed it, our beloved Albania :)
So after the 8th round, we found ourselves in the first position along with one other team and had already started opening the virtual champagne bottles. But as Ken predicted “These teams usually become too competitive and panic in the last round.” Well, thanks for jinxing it for us :)
So the scariest category of all came: Do you know Ireland? Hmmm...apparently no :) I am sorry, but who could have known that the phrase Now you are sucking diesel! in Ireland means “You are doing well!” And the last one wasn't better either – the most fearsome of all, the World War II category just crushed our dreams of becoming winners. So...maybe next time ;)
