The Malaysia Green Building Confederation (MGBC) was founded in May 2007 when a group of consultants, academia and representatives from the building industry collaborated to drive and guide the local building industry in the direction of sustainable built solutions. A non profit and non government organisation, the founding group was supported by Malaysia Institute of Architects (PAM) and the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) in 2008. In April 2009, MGBC was formalised under the Registrar of Societies. MGBC promotes green building programmes, technologies, design practices and processes, and green label in embracing responsible sustainable measures and other green requirements for environmental, social and economic benefits. It has a diverse range of stakeholders comprising professionals, professional institutions, academicians, government organisations, developers, contractors, manufacturers and others related to the building and construction industry. Part of the prestigious World Green Building Council (WGBC), an international non profit coalition that represents the global building industry to drive market based transformation towards sustainable built environment, MGBC was accorded Established Member status in March 2015, the only organisation in Malaysia to be supported by WGBC.
