The course covers all aspects of pressure and safety relief valves. It describes why specific equipment like separators and heat exchangers require relief protection and how to determine the relief cases for these items. The different types of relief devices are described together with the design formulae for sizing relief devices for liquid, vapour and steam including flashing liquids and two-phase relief. The importance of the piping and header design is covered as are various piping design aspects such as reaction forces and acoustic-induced vibration.
The course uses a mixture of presentation material and in-class exercises to help attendees cement a thorough understanding of the subjects.
