James Dalton is Director of General Insurance Policy at the ABI. James has responsibility for leading the ABI’s work on property, liability and motor insurance issues, including flooding policy, civil justice reform, tackling insurance fraud and the issues associated with legacy claims. James jointly leads the ABI’s Policy Directorate with Dr Yvonne Braun, Director of Long Term Savings Policy. James was previously the ABI’s Assistant Director, Head of Motor and Liability. He has led ABI policy work on a range of high profile industry issues, including civil litigation reform, establishing the untraced mesothelioma compensation scheme, the CMA review of the private motor insurance market, campaigning for young driver reform, and the setting up of MedCo. Prior to joining the ABI in 2007, James worked as a solicitor at the Treasury Solicitors Department and was a Senior Adviser at the New Zealand Ministry of Economic Development where he co-ordinated a review of New Zealand’s standards and conformance infrastructure, undertook international trade negotiations and acted as Private Secretary to the New Zealand Minister of Commerce.
