José J. Suárez is the President responsible for the Mining and Metallurgy business sector for SNC-Lavalin Globally. SNC-Lavalin provides Engineering and Construction (E&C) services for mining clients from pit to port. This includes mine planning, study project work, sustaining capital project work, expansionary capital project work, and operations support via its project delivery centers in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia. He is also the Executive Sponsor for Latin America for SNC-Lavalin. Providing work in the Infrastructure, the Oil and Gas, the Power, and the Mining and Metallurgy sector, SNC-Lavalin is one of the largest players in the Engineering and Construction (E&C) business in Latin America. Prior to his current role, he was the Executive Vice President, Integrated Management Systems (IMS) for SNC-Lavalin. He has over 25 years of experience in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC); engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) and in the start-up and operations of major industrial plants for the mining and metallurgy, power (coal-fired, combined cycle, and gas-fired), pulp and paper, oil and gas and cement industries. In the mining sector, José has worked on copper, nickel, alumina, iron ore, steel, gold, potash, fertilizers, and titanium projects and operations. He has worked in six continents. José has deep expertise in program management in the design and the project management of mining, power, oil and gas, and infrastructure /environmental projects, including light rail projects, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, water and wastewater and wharf/pier/port facility projects from the conceptual/study phase, EPC/EPCM phase to the start-up and commissioning phase, and the operations project stages. His business and corporate management experience includes corporate social responsibility (CSR) management, business process management (BPM), strategic plan creation, and the creation and transformation of business enterprises, and capital project organizations, project teams, and projects to improve performance and delivery. José also managed both open shop and union construction companies. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario (P.Eng.), has a BS Civil Engineering Degree from The Virginia Military Institute, and MS Engineering Degree from The University of Kansas. In 2011, José was selected as one of the Ten (10) Most Influential Hispanics in Canada by Hispanic Business Canada. He is also the recipient of the United States Army Award for Public Service, for his support of the Society of American Military Engineers Chapter at the University of Kansas. He is a frequent speaker and author on project execution matters and on the mining industry on major trade publications/forums.
