Michael Barrett heads the Collateral Management practice for the Financial Markets Solutions Group (FMS) within Genpact Headstrong Capital Markets. Liquidity and risk management, coupled with global legislative and regulatory changes, comprise some of the most compelling challenges faced by financial markets participants. Managing the collateral which enables trading between counterparties, clearing and settling trades, and optimizing the collateral needed to maintain and grow businesses while ensuring that firms meet new regulatory liquidity requirements, all make collateral management the new lynchpin in the smooth functioning of global financial markets. Genpact addresses the challenges of managing and optimizing collateral across the financial enterprise to enable firms to meet current and emerging client needs while protecting the safety and soundness of the enterprise. Michael has nearly thirty years of experience in banking and securities, with the last fifteen years focused on global markets and global securities services including global market infrastructure, global securities clearance and custody, and global securities finance including collateral management. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, and conducts basic and advanced level collateral management seminars for Financial Markets World. Prior to joining Genpact, Michael was a founding partner in Global Collateral Management Solutions, LLC (GCMS) – a strategic business advisory firm specializing in designing enterprise-wide target operating models for collateral management, and new market and product development for collateral services. Headstrong, and then Genpact Headstrong was a valued client at that time, along with several global banking firms and asset managers. Before founding GCMS with his partners, Michael lead Clearstream Banking, S.A., (the International Central Securities Depository) in the Americas, was Managing Director for Global Securities Services in the Americas for Deutsche Bank, and led new product development, business strategy and marketing for a Capital Management division of Wachovia Bank, N.A. He began his career with Security Pacific National Bank, which later merged with Bank of America, where he spent fifteen years in several leadership roles, including Financial Institutions, Government Banking where he founded and built the Federal Government Banking business, and Global Securities Services. Michael has a B.A. from the University of California, and attended law school at the Kendrick School of Law, University of San Francisco.
