An Electrical Engineer by training, Mr. Carter joined National Grid in 1993 as a Network Operations Manager taking responsibility for the Safety Control Centre consolidation team. Since then he worked on a research project while living in Japan working for Tokyo Electric Power Company and numerous other roles in Finance, M&A and Engineering policy and Overhead line R&D. He moved into Property as the UK Property Manager and has been with Property since responsible for various activities including the environmental aspects associated with the £5.2bn sale of four Gas Distribution Networks. He also worked in the North East USA for two and a half years on the merger of National Grid & Keyspan including the identification of merger synergies. More recently, he has returned to the role of Head of Corporate Property for National Grid managing an estate of c.1000 properties from larger offices, control & data centres to operational depots and substations. The supply chain is c.1100 strong and managed by an internal team of c.55. Annual spend is c.£100m.
