Ariel Pérez is President of International Society of Automation (ISA) Chile section and Regional Manager of ISA Mining and Metals Division, South America. He is also owner and director of Sparq Systems. He has more than 25 years of experience with control systems applied to mining projects including concept and architecture design, HMI design, PCS programming, network design, system startup and training; including DCS/PLC/MHI, Manufacturing Execution Systems, industrial communication protocols, motor control including VSDs, instrumentation, machine learning, databases, and software development. He has worked in México, Chile, Perú and Kazakhstan, for companies like Rockwell Automation, Sparq Technology, AMEC, Bechtel and KAZ Minerals, developing important mining projects for companies like Codelco, Minera Maricunga, Anglo American, Xstrata, Teck and others. He is member of the ISA 18.2 Technical Committee, and is also coauthor of the ISA 18.2 TR7, both referring to management of alarm systems for the process industries. He has published several articles including as topic the integration of IT and industrial systems. He is also author of the blog automatizacion.bligoo.com. He has designed and developed a Manufacturing Execution System oriented to integrate control systems with ERPs, and to boost manufacturing efficiency through the management of the OEE (Overall equipment effectiveness)
