Baljit Singh Bedi did B.Tech and M.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. After serving for five years in IIT, Delhi as researcher, he joined Department of Information Technology (DIT), Ministry of Communication& Information Technology (MCIT), Government of India. Major contributions over the years cover conceptualizing, evolving and implementation of a number of major Schemes involving electronics and IT applications in different sectors with major focus in Healthcare. As Head of Medical Electronics & Telemedicine Division, he promoted development of Telemedicine/eHealth S/W platforms and launched a number of e-Health & Tele–health schemes covering many states in India. He was part of National Task Force for Telemedicine of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW), Govt. of India and headed Group on Standards. He was a Member of National Knowledge Commission’s Working Group on India-Health Information Network Development and its follow up actions. He was member of the National Committee on EMR Standardization set up by MoH&FW and headed its Interoperability Task Group and the Sub-Committee at FICCI for finalization of Recommendations for notifying these at MoH&FW Website.He is member of the current MoHFW Legal Sub-Committee for EHR and also EHR Review Committee. He is Chairman FICCI’s India Health Information Network( IHIN) Working Group on EHR and Standards. He is actively involved in policy, development programs of IT in Health initiatives of MoH&FW. He is Past President, Telemedicine Society of India (TSI) and Executive Member of Indian Association for Medical Informatics (IAMI).Currently he is Adviser, Health Informatics to Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), MCIT.
