His personal global leadership experience in all aspects of the energy industry makes him keenly aware of the public expectations for incident-free operations and what it takes to meet those expectations. He understands that people are the key to performance excellence and he brings insights on how to position workforces and individuals for success. In a business world that has become increasingly complex, his skills in attacking complexity enable his clients to enhance their position relative to their competition. Bill began his career with ExxonMobil in a variety of leadership and executive positions. His experiences include positions in refining operations, supply and transportation, procurement and supply chain management, global safety, health, and environment leadership in both downstream and upstream operations, and sustainability and public affairs. He has over ten years experience as the head of Heartland Consulting, Inc. and has worked with over twenty clients. Those clients include Valero, Tesoro, ConocoPhillips, Enterprise Products, Spectra Energy, Suncor, HollyFrontier, Sinclair Oil, Irving Oil, Hercules Offshore, US Steel, PPG, LyondellBasell, and NalcoChampion. He has built corporate risk-based management systems, implemented behavior and culture change efforts that dramatically reduced operating incidents, and coached executive leaders in the development and execution of their organizational strategies. He has led global trade association efforts to address environment and sustainability issues. Bill Flis is a graduate of Lafayette College with a BS in Chemical Engineering, and Lehigh University with a MS Chemical Engineering and MBA in Manufacturing Operations. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
