Nasirou Bako Arifari is the Foreign Minister of Benin, in office since May 2011. He came from an academic political science background before joining the Beninese government. In 2013 The Secretary- General reiterated his appreciation for the key role Benin has been playing since 2011 to raise the international community’s awareness of the threat of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. Nassirou Bako-Arifari has been a consultant to many international organizations such as theWorld Bank, the United Nations Fund for Food and Swiss Cooperation. He is also the author of several studies including on decentralization and local authorities in rural Benin and Niger, anthropological approaches to corruption in West Africa and the democratization process.
