James T. O’Connor is a Professor of Civil Engineering, the C. T. Wells Professor of Project Management, and CEPM Program Coordinator at The University of Texas at Austin. He holds a B.S. in architectural engineering from Oklahoma State University, an M.Arch. in architectural structures from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas. His teaching and research interests include value management processes, design effectiveness, project constructability enhancement, project risk management, and planning for startup. His industry experience includes several years in both the public and private sectors. He has published and lectured widely. He received the Outstanding Research Award from the Construction Industry Institute in 2005, and the Thomas Fitch Rowland Prize for outstanding research from ASCE in 1987 and again in 1995. He is very active in both the Construction Industry Institute and the American Society of Civil Engineers and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas.
