Marco Antonio Orellana Silva serves as Executive Manager of Information, Communication & Automation Technology (IC&A) at CODELCO-Chile, the world’s largest copper producer. He is also an active member of the Association of Information Managers of Chile. One of his accomplishments at CODELCO was the creation and implementation of DIGITAL CODELCO, a new IC&A based vision for the mining industry, which features high levels of automation. He shared his vision and ideas for frontier topics for DIGITAL CODELCO with other IC&A industry leaders worldwide, winning wide support. For this work he gained recognition as “Manager if the Year” in 2007 from Chile by Center for the Study of Information Technology (CETIUC) at Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and “CIO of the Year” in 2010 from the Chilean technology community. In May of 2011 he was granted the Award for innovation Leadership, presented by the MIT as part of the “8th Annual MIT Sloan CIO Symposium” and the ACTI award 2011 for his support to the internationalization of the National Technology Industry. In November 2012 is announced his nomination of the award Computerworld’s Premier 100 IT Leaders was delivered in March 2013, where he was recognized to be a finalist for the LATAM AWARDS 2013, issued by DatacenterDynamics, innovation developed in the implementation of Datacenter TICAR in the El Teniente Division. Our CIO was recognized by the Hispanic IT Executive Council, through its “HITEC 50 Winners Class – Latin America” award, during 2013, 2014 & 2015, which is granted to the talent and contribution of professional Spanish speaking. In 2015 along with the Chairman of CODELCO received the award for Business Innovation ICT 2015, awarded by ACTI to CODELCO by the automation project in concentrator plants. He has participated as a speaker at numerous conferences and lectures at universities, research centers and events dedicated to the relationship between business and IC&A. Among the most remarkable we can state MIT, and local universities like Universidad de Chile, Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Universidad Santa María and Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, and the years 2013 and 2015 has been featured as a keynote speaker at Symphos event in Agadir – Morocco. He was also the mastermind of the international Seminar of Technology Approach, to bring the IC&A to the mining business, carried out in Chile every two years at Calama city, the heart of mining, event that already has 6 versions.
