Mr. Straub is counsel for BP’s Global Projects Organization (GPO) and provides legal support to its major projects. He counsels his clients on all elements of projects including (i) high value engineering, construction, installation and services contracts; (ii) strategic input to the commercial structure of projects; and (iii) integrating the legal aspects of projects with the work undertaken by BP’s other functions. Prior to joining BP, Mr. Straub practiced for over a decade at Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak and Stewart, in its Construction Industry Practice Group. In private practice, he advised clients in various construction projects including coal and gas-fired power generation plants, major earthworks, wind farms, automobile manufacturing facilities, airports and regional distribution centers. He counselled clients on transactional matters, including the development and drafting of design and construction contracts for a global material supplier related to a manufacturing facility in People’s Republic of China. He also prosecuted and defended claims on behalf of his construction clients. He emphasized claims avoidance and guided clients on litigation strategies, exposure assessment, development of litigation budgets and estimates, and settlement analysis. He received his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame and his juris doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
