Navin Sharma (27 years financial industry and 16 years risk management experience), is responsible for risk management of BlackRock’s municipal business and liaising with the US Mutual Funds boards as well as previous oversight of the SMA and liquidity businesses. Previously, he was responsible for risk management of Western Asset Management’s New York Office with the focus on municipal, money markets, insurance, and SMA retail and institutional funds/accounts. Prior to that role, he was Director of Risk Management at Oppenheimer Funds, Inc. focusing on the firm’s fixed income and equity funds, reporting to senior management and chairing the firm’s Investments Risk Management Committee. He was also responsible for analyses, reporting and presenting to the firm’s mutual fund and institutional boards on investment risk. Mr. Sharma’s background includes quantitative analysis roles at the Vanguard Group, Fannie Mae and Nomura Research. He received a Master of Science degree from the Moore School of Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, and has a BA from Temple University. Mr. Sharma is a past Regional Director of the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association’s New York Chapter and a current member of its Global Council overseeing all chapters. He was an original member of the Investment Company Institute’s Risk Advisory Committee, and also advanced efforts on behalf of the ICI-related Independent Director’s Council. He has been active in the Buy Side Risk Manager’s Forum, a volunteer risk organization comprised of a large number of asset management firms’ Chief Risk Officers. He has been a speaker at Incisive Media conferences over the years as well as at Citigroup, Northfield Information Systems and Wall Street Journal/World Research Group’s conferences.
