Dr. Beninger is a Therapeutic Area Head in Pharmacovigilance and Epidemiology at Genzyme, a Sanofi company, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He began his career in drug development in 1987 at the US Food and Drug Administration, and then joined Merck & Company in 1995, before moving to Genzyme as vice-president of pharmacovigilance in 2006; Genzyme was acquired by Sanofi in 2011. Dr Beninger trained in internal medicine and infectious diseases. He received his MD from UC Davis, his BA from Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California, his MBA from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his graduate certificate in epidemiology from Tufts. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Infectious Disease Society of America. He is also the Director of a new Master’s degree program in Development and Regulation of Medicines and Devices and the MD/MBA Program at Tufts University School of Medicine.
