Mr. Richter retired in 2014 from his position as Director of Emergency Management for VW International, Inc. and is self-employed teaching Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional and Certified Healthcare Safety Professional certification courses and college Healthcare Administration courses. Prior to joining VWI, he was the Risk Management Coordinator for Support Services with the South Carolina Hospital Association for seven years. In this capacity, he served as a consultant to 72 hospitals and healthcare organizations and various state agencies. His expertise is in healthcare emergency management, safety and risk management, health care fire and life safety codes, and associated laws, regulations and codes. Before employment with SCHA, Mr. Richter retired from the US Army serving as a Lieutenant Colonel, Medical Services Officer for 21 years, specializing in healthcare administration and healthcare construction. He is a recognized expert in hospital emergency management and preparedness. Mr. Richter has been a lead instructor for the Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) and Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) for the past six years. In addition, he has authored mulitple books and journals on hospital emergency preparedness, compliance and disaster recovery, to name a few.
