Phil continues to lead on the construction and implementation of a world class digital learning ecosystem across the GEMS global network of schools, with over 250,000 users. Phil has worked in the Middle East for 12 years, as a teacher, senior leader, Curriculum Innovation Director, Director of ICT and Innovation, education advisor, strategist and education project manager. He successfully led the implementation of the first large scale Bring Your Own Device scheme in a UAE school and also the first deployment of iPods and iPads in the region. He also co-developed and launched the region’s first school smartphone application. Phil is a qualified and experienced HTI-GEMS International Leadership Facilitator and has completed the Council of International Schools Accreditor training programme. He has been part of GEMS School Review teams, gaining valuable experience in inspection, review and improvement processes across a wide range of school models and curricula. Phil has written the GEMS Digital Strategy, an ambitious and innovative 5 year programme of digital normalisation with the potential to impact millions of learners globally. He has also produced a comprehensive Guide to BYOT Implementation and co-authored the GEMS Social Media Policy. He is the editor and feature author of the popular ‘Digitz’ section, (now re-launched as Innovation!) in the GEMS Family Magazine.
