Rita Achrekar is Senior Vice President, Global Risk Management for Scotiabank and is responsible for credit risk adjudication and oversight of Scotiabank’s exposure to financial institutions worldwide. Rita is a member of the Senior Credit Committee of the Bank. Ms. Achrekar joined Scotiabank in 2000 and has held progressive positions in foreign exchange and fixed income trading, internal audit and risk management; including global responsibility for market risk control of Scotiabank’s trading and treasury operations. Prior to joining Scotiabank, Ms. Achrekar held treasury and trading roles with American Express Bank and ING Bank in Mumbai, India. She has over 23 years of trading and risk experience and spearheaded the establishment of ING’s trading business in India. Ms. Achrekar is a graduate of University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Business School (Advanced Management Program), Mumbai University’s Jamnalal Bajaj Institute (M.B.A. – Finance), and Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai (B.S. – Electrical Engineering). Ms. Achrekar was appointed in 2015 to the Board of Directors of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada. (IIROC).
