Barry Polak

Lead Product Owner Commerce

Barry Polak is a driven people manager with over 20 years of experience in various facets of the international financial industry. His career has been centered around trading, product management and change management. This included leading global business development and product management teams, developing and maturing products & services and portfolio management.
Since January 2023, Barry has been working for ABN AMRO Clearing as the Lead Product Owner Commerce. As Lead Product Owner Commerce, Barry is primarily responsible for the change and run of the key business applications that drive revenues and new commercial initiatives.
Barry his focus is on delivering results, collaboration, customer satisfaction and empowering staff. It is his ambition to develop and deliver reliable global products & services, which are vital to clients and make financial markets globally efficient, safe and transparent.
He values to work hard and play hard. For him this means to achieve results, give trust, be transparent, receive and give feedback, build personal relations and to have fun. He likes to be soft on people and hard on decisions and deadlines.
Barry’s career started as a derivatives trader on the AEX in 1999. After 5 years of trading, he changed his career path into IT and consulting and worked for several consulting organizations like Atos Origin, Cap Gemini and Capco. His projects focused on IT outsourcing, compliance projects, mergers and new products within the financial industry. He received amongst other a reward for a successful big IT outsourcing deal whilst working for Atos Origin. One of his key projects was being the program manager responsible for the successful ESMA certification for the CCP Holland Clearing House, owned by ABN AMRO Clearing, with a tight regulatory deadline and limited resources.
From 2014 until now, Barry is employed by ABN AMRO Clearing. As head of Products and later Global Head of Product Management and member of the European Management Team Barry introduced amongst others better reporting on financials and other KPIs per Product.
Barry is a Master of Science in Bedrijfskunde at the University of Groningen (1998). He successfully passed several relevant agile exams (PSPO1, PSPO2, SaFE Scaled Agile) in the last three years and recently started with an MBA Business & IT at Nyenrode (2022).
On a personal note, Barry is born in 1974 in Leeuwarden and he lives with his wife Krista and son Mees in Amsterdam since 1998.
