Camilo Giraldo is a veterinarian with over 30 years of experience in the animal health pharmaceutical industry, recognized internationally for his leadership in veterinary pharmacovigilance. Based in Switzerland for the past 20 years, he has played a key role in shaping global safety systems and advancing scientific standards in pharmacovigilance and signal management.
As Director of Global Pharmacovigilance – Signal Management at Elanco, Camilo implemented a comprehensive global Signal Management program that improved the speed and accuracy of safety signal analysis by 40%, while ensuring full regulatory compliance across multiple regions. His work strengthened global oversight of product safety and contributed to proactive risk mitigation strategies protecting both animal and public health.
Camilo’s expertise spans all aspects of signal management — from detection and validation to assessment, risk minimization, and regulatory communication. He has published and presented internationally on advanced methodologies, including the use of machine learning in veterinary pharmacovigilance and signal detection.
He is a regular speaker and trainer at industry and regulatory events, including three consecutive CAMEVET (WOAH) conferences, and has supported capacity-building initiatives for pharmacovigilance professionals worldwide. Prior to his role at Elanco, Camilo held senior leadership positions at Novartis Animal Health and served as Adjunct Professor of Veterinary Pharmacology at the University of La Salle, Colombia, for 15 years.
He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of La Salle and postgraduate qualifications in Poultry Medicine, Marketing, and Management. Driven by a lifelong commitment to advancing animal health, Camilo continues to contribute to the global dialogue on safety, innovation, and regulatory excellence in veterinary medicine.
