Steve has a B.SC. (Eng.) and Ph.D. in Metallurgy from Imperial College, London. He has 40+ years’ experience in materials, corrosion, welding, inspection and integrity management mostly with Shell. His last position prior to retirement from Shell was as the global Principal Technical Expert for Upstream Materials. He has worked in the U.K., Netherlands, Norway, Middle East and Malaysia. Since 2017 he has been an independent consultant involved in providing materials advice to several sectors including oil & gas production, geothermal, CCS and hydrogen storage. He first became involved with CCS in 2007 with the Longannet project in Scotland and continues to be consulted on CCS projects and research. He is the document project manager for AMPP standard SP21632-3 “Guidelines for Materials Selection and Testing for CO2 Injection in Wells”. His training experience has been developed over 15 years in many subjects relating to materials, corrosion, inspection and integrity management. In 2019 he was awarded the prestigious Institute of Corrosion Paul McIntyre Award.
