Laurie has accumulated over 40 years of direct and management experience in new heavy fabrication yard construction, Oil & Gas maintenance and inspection onshore/offshore industry UK, Europe, and Middle East.
Specialising in protective coatings, thermal insulation and managing Corrosion Under Insulation projects, he brings insights and strategies to overcome and mitigate design and field in-service root cause of CUI failures.
Laurie continues to serve with AMPP (NACE) as a CIP 3 Peer reviewer. Holding the Senior Coatings Inspector certification since 1999, he has taught AMPP certification modules throughout the world as a CIP Protective coatings instructor, Lead CIP coating instructor and participated in delivering the Protective Coating Specialist (PCS) programs.
Taking up a short-term challenge of delivering the Asset Integrity modules at Robert Gordon’s University in Aberdeen, then setting the pace with UK Energy Institute industry guidance committees on developing and delivering guidance on Fabric Maintenance, Protective Coatings, Thermal Insulation, Passive Fire Protection, and Corrosion Under Pipe Supports.
Laurie has a management passion to prevent, detect and mitigate the CUI phenomena that has a long history of process safety operational implications, business disruption and emergent cost impact.
Educationally, Laurie holds an MBA in Oil & Gas Management, MSc in Asset Integrity and MSc in Project Management.
In the past, Laurie has also been active on behalf of industry associations:
• Energy Institute – Chairman of Aberdeen, Highlands & Islands branch (2016 – 2019)
• AMPP (NACE) – Chairman of Coatings sub-committee (2016 – 2020)
Most recently Laurie has been actively involved in the role of Fabric Maintenance Team Lead with an initiative-taking UKCS and NL Gas operator.
