John Kabiruhas an MBA in Finance and BCOM (Accounting) from the University of Nairobi. He is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) from Information Systems and Control Association (ISACA). He is pursuing PhD studies in Business Administration (Banking) at the University of Nairobi and has a wealth of experience in institutional capacity building, financial and risk services. He led risk management at one of the Banks in Kenya. He nurtured his early career in the audit firm EY among the big four.
John is an institutional development advisor specializing in risk, financial matters and policy. He has handled a well-diversified portfolio of assignments in the region. He has been an ardent champion in governance and risk at board level both in the private and public sector.
John served in the Board of Trustees-KCA University (2011-2017). He currently serves in the board of Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) and is a member of the KEPSA Audit and Risk Committee. He serves as advisor of the Kenya Medical Association. He has lectured in Risk Management (Masters in Banking & Finance) for Moi University in collaboration with Central Bank’s Kenya School of Monetary Studies. He has also been a part time graduate lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology and Management University of Africa in the areas of risk, financial and investment management.
John is the Founder and Managing Consultant of Financial Services Solutions Ltd (FSS). FSS was formed with a goal of helping organizations build and protect enterprise value by taking a risk smart approach to managing financial, operational and strategic risks. FSS works with all organizations to help them implement and continuously improve a framework for integrating the process for managing risk into the organization’s overall governance, strategy and planning, management, reporting processes, policies, values and culture. FSS risk solutions are modeled along best practice (principally ISO 31000, and COSO-ERM Frameworks) ensures compliance with regulations e.g. Basel III/Solvency II, and other global best-in-class initiatives.

Patrick is Governance Global Best Practice enthusiast, offering over 20 years largely Governance Risk and Compliance -GRC experience supported by multiple professional credentials. In his career he has been instrumental in setting up many Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Fraud Risk Management (FRM), Compliance, Business Continuity and Internal Audit (IA) functions. He has been Chief Audit Executive, HOD- IT Risk Management at Equity Bank Group where formed IT Governance applying COBIT 5 framework, Risk Consultant and United Nation, Senior Manager PwC Risk Assurance; Project Risk Specialist at Glo Nigeria. Since 1997, Patrick worked or trained in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Zambia, Tanzania, UAE, Uganda, Benin Republic, Malawi and Afghanistan.
