Conor Spollen is a senior mining operations and project executive who was Chief Operating Officer for Vale's base metals operating mines and processing facilities in Canada, UK, China and Japan. With strong technical skills and a creative mindset, Conor was responsible for safety, health, environmental stewardship, achieving production volumes, lowering operating costs with consistent performance. Conor managed a large portfolio of capital projects from concept to execution. Conor was also responsible for the execution of efficiency improvements in Vale’s business in Canada, including the pursuit of technology and re-shaping the asset base. He led 6,000 employees in Canada and 650 in the UK and Asia.
An analytical and critical thinker, Conor is a highly-motivated problem-solver who has earned the trust and respect of his teams through his leadership, passion, open door and hands-on involvement. He has demonstrated tremendous resilience and teamwork throughout prolonged nickel and copper volatility and successfully brought the state-of-the-art Long Harbour hydrometallurgical nickel processing plant to completion by speeding construction, commissioning and operations teams.
