Born in Bogota, Colombia, Cesar started his career in the pharmaceutical sector over 20 years ago. Cesar holds a Business Administration (BA) degree from the EAN University; and a Master degree in Marketing from the Los Andes University, both in Bogotá, Colombia and he is fluent in four languages: Spanish (mother tongue), English, Portuguese and French. Cesar joined GSK Colombia in 1996 in the Marketing area and assumed increasing responsibility roles within commercial area, from Vaccines Product Manager to Vaccines Unit Manager for Colombia & Andean region. In the course of the last 20 years he has gained well rounded commercial experience by having Zone and Area responsibilities in both pharmaceuticals and vaccines divisions. From 2001 to 2002, he led the vaccines and HIV businesses in the Latina & Caribbean region. He was appointed GSK’s General Manager for Colombia in 2002 playing a key role in the successful introduction of the Pentavalent vaccine in the Colombian National Immunization Program. From 2006 to 2008 he was the VP & General Manager of GSK in Puerto Rico, leading the local team in achieving outstanding business results and becoming number one operation in revenues for the Latin America region in 2006. As the VP & General Manager for GSK Brazil, position he held between 2008 and 2015, Cesar led a transformation which turned the business into one of the most successful operations within the company, managing 900 employees. In seven years GSK Brazil more than doubled its size and became the fastest growing pharmaceutical company in the market. Cesar has positioned himself as a strong leader, capable of consistently delivering results in different countries, with diverse culture and complex business environments and healthcare systems, ranging from strong FDA patent laws to low price, highly competitive generic markets. Cesar was appointed Senior Vice President and Area Director for GSK Pharma business in Latin America & Caribbean in August 2015, position he actually holds.
