The Hazardous Substances Division of the Department of Environment, Malaysia (DOE) is responsible for the sound and safe management of toxic and hazardous wastes; developing and formulating new and reviewing new guidelines and waste related legislations; assessing the management, recycling, recovery, treatment and disposal practises of toxic and hazardous wastes; clean up of hazardous wastes contaminated sites; implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Convention and managing environmentally hazardous substances(EHS). Ms. Ghazali has previously worked as the DOE representative in the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), as the Head of Water Quality Division in the National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) and the Director of DOE Sabah. She has served the DOE Malaysia for 30 years and has a Masters Degree in Pollution Control from Manchester University, UK.
