David is a graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Law. Following his graduation in 1997, David completed a one year clerkship for the Honorable Edwin Smith at the Missouri Court of Appeals. Afterwards, David began his career as a construction lawyer. David’s construction experience ranges from litigating complex construction disputes in arbitration, state and federal courts to leading negotiations for multi-billion dollar projects in the Energy industry sector. Prior employers include a leading boutique construction firm as well as a large international law firm. Currently, David acts as Assistant General Counsel – Commercial at Kiewit Energy Group, where he leads a group of six transactional attorneys in handling all contractual arrangements on the “get work” side of Kiewit’s energy business. In addition to leading negotiations with Kiewit’s clients, David also oversees the subcontracting process and manages negotiations with key vendors and subcontractors. David also led the development and implementation for the redesign for all curriculum at Kiewit University by which Kiewit’s current and future leaders are taught construction law and risk management principles germane to the core business of Kiewit. David is a published author of articles concerning trends in construction law and is active in several industry groups. He currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri with his wife and three children.
