Clare has over 25 years’ operational experience in oil and gas corrosion and integrity management, working for operators and service companies. She has held senior staff technical roles with international operators including ExxonMobil. Examples are Integrity Advisor, Corrosion Subject Matter Expert, Reliability and Integrity Lead for Rationalisation, Lead Integrity Engineer Asset Life Extension, Global CUI Focal Point. She spent six years with the KAEFER Innovation and Technical Excellence team developing CUI expertise, innovation, and training.
Clare’s CUI experience includes reviews of CUI management, establishing improvement initiatives, developing bespoke strategies, supporting Joint Industry Projects, technology innovation, and failure investigations. She has set up design upgrade and live TSA coating application projects, and published papers on the importance of field data in CUI management and common RBI errors. Since 2019, Clare has co-developed and co-delivered the international Fleming CUI training, endorsed by the Institute of Corrosion.
Clare delivered the annual industry corrosion lecture for 13 years for Cranfield University’s Corrosion Training Programme and Offshore Subsea Engineering MSc. She is a member of the Energy Institute Corrosion Management and Asset Integrity Committee and has contributed to industry guidance. She says, “CUI is a multidiscipline global corrosion issue with unique challenges; one strategy does not fit all plants; the future may rely on combining multiple innovative technologies and more realistic test programmes to speed up step change cost reduction without compromising on reliability, as opposed to waiting for decades of field experience to prove what works”.
