Joerg is an Associate Director with Arup and currently leads the Middle East Transport Modelling Team. He has over 16 years’ experience in multi modal transportation planning covering a broad range of disciplines including forecasting, operations, economics, regulations and technology. A Chartered Engineer with a Master Degree in Engineering and an MBA, he combines technical expertise with the understanding of urban planning, business management, policy and financial and economic dimensions. Joerg has extensive experience in managing multidisciplinary planning studies with a focus on public transportation and new technologies. He has a detailed understanding of the Middle East rail industry having worked on metro, LRT and heavy rail projects across the region. Joerg specialises in the development and application of analytical models and has a particular interest in optimizing existing techniques to respond to a changing transportation environment driven by smart mobility initiatives and new technologies. Having previously worked in the UK, US and Germany, Joerg has been in the Middle East since 2006 and has been involved in several high profile projects in the region including Masterplans for Dubai Expo 2020 and Dubai Jumeirah Central, Abu Dhabi’s Surface Transport Master Plan, Integrated Public Transport Network and Bus Master Plan; Etihad Rail regulations and economic studies; and the Transport Master Plan for Qatar.
