Johan KLIPPER (°1962) has extensive experience in the petro-chemical industry, mainly in Antwerpen (Belgium) and a few years in Houston (Texas, USA). He held functions in operations, projects, and specialized in maintenance and turnarounds. Johan studied electromechanical engineering at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) where he obtained a Civil engineer’s degree. He started his career in polyolefins manufacturing first at Exxon Chemicals and later with Solvay (now: Ineos Polyolefins). During his tenure with Solvay he contributed to the commissioning, start-up and organization of the operations of grass-roots plants both in Antwerpen and in Houston. Duties included technical aspects, recruitment and training of operations personnel, supervising the redaction of SOPs (standard operations procedures) and ISO9000 certification. As maintenance & construction manager he later oversaw a major debottlenecking project. He joined Air Liquide in 2002 as maintenance manager for their Antwerpen facilities and reorganized maintenance in order to support the growth in hydrogen-carbon monoxide production when two world-class plants were added in the 2003-2007 timeframe in addition to an existing large air separation unit. Following the economical crisis Johan implemented systems and improvements aimed at tightly controlling and reducing maintenance expenses. Recently he became responsible for all major turnarounds of Air Liquide in the Benelux as well as for the static equipment inspection. Johan is member of KVIVi, Bemasii and participates in the Antwerpen turnaround managers network.
