Kaveh Vessali is currently serving as the Sr. Advisor to the Open Data Committee (ODC) of the Smart Dubai Executive Committee. In this role, he has been one of the forces behind the development and launch of Dubai Data, the most comprehensive and ambitious data initiative in the world to date. Mr. Vessali is the former Vice Consul and Deputy Chief for Economic Affairs at the United States Consulate General in Dubai. Prior to that, he spent 15 years in Silicon Valley, first as a founder and executive in several software startups, and later as a strategy, marketing, and product executive at Siebel Systems, SAP, and most recently Global Vice President of Public Sector Solutions at Salesforce.com. Mr. Vessali started his career as an urban planning and public policy economist, consulting on environmental, land use and transportation policy at the national and local government levels in the U.S. and Europe. Kaveh is a published academic author and former Editor of the Berkeley Planning Journal, and his work with the city of Toledo, Spain won the EC urban planning award in 1995. Mr. Vessali conducted his Ph.D. studies in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earlier received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard University‘s Kennedy School of Government.
