Michael Nieuwesteeg MSc MEng (1959) is managing director of NVC Netherlands Packaging Centre. NVC (founded in 1953) is the association of 550+ companies (retailers, packaged goods manufacturers, packaging and machinery suppliers, service providers, recyclers, etc.) addressing the activity of packaging throughout the supply chain of packaged products. The NVC membership, joint innovation projects, information services and education programme stimulate the continuous improvement of packaging. The NVC Members-only Update (MOU) is a unique service, provided on a monthly basis worldwide, for those with a professional need for an up-to-date global overview of packaging developments. The MOU supports NVC member companies in taking optimal business decisions on packaging. NVC projects include Web Retail Packaging (e-commerce), Pharma Packaging (pharma), Digital Printing for Packaging (print), Fighting Food and Cosmetics Waste Through Responsible Packaging (food, cosmetics) and PUMA (Packaging Upcyclable Materials Accelerator, ending packaging as an environmental issue in the next decade 2017-2026) Business education in packaging is provided both ‘physical’ in a classroom and Live Online real-time with live tutors. The Live Online NVC courses are globally accessible, and omit the need for travel and related cost and stress, while providing full interactivity for the business students. An ever expanding range of packaging topics is addressed in the NVC Live Online courses and workshops. Business students from over 70 countries have participated since the first NVC Live Online workshop in 2013. Michael is board member of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), secretary of the European Packaging Institutes Consortium (EPIC) and chairman of the NEN Policy Committee on the Standardisation of Transport, Logistics and Packaging.
