Trained as a biologist in immunology and with several years of experience as Research Project Leader in academia and biotech, Rainer moved into Project Management about 10 years ago. He started his academic career in 1985 studying Biology at Münster University in Germany and conducted his master thesis at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. in Basel, Switzerland. He subsequently joined the Basel Institute for Immunology, Switzerland, where he completed his doctoral studies in Immunology in 1996. After a postdoctoral training at The Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, and a research scientist position at a biotech in Germany he joined Novartis Pharma in 2008. Rainer is a Senior Project Manager in the Project Management Organization at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) mainly responsible for global drug discovery and development programs in the areas of autoimmunity, inflammation and transplantation. Skilled in facilitation he is leading workshops for the development of drug discovery and development strategies with project teams.
