Sarifah bt. Yaacob, born 1965, has more than 25 years experience in environmental fields including Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Management, Research and Development and Solid Waste Management (SWM). She holds a degree in Civil Engineering from University of Southwestern Louisiana, USA, graduated in 1987 and obtained MSc degree in Environmental Engineering from University Technology of Malaysia, Johor in 1993. She started her career in Environmental line when she joined Lankhorst Environmental Services in 1993 and gained more experience in an environmental consultancy company called HICOM Environmental Services, which is a joint venture with an International company. Throughout the period, she has prepared and obtained DOE approval for more than thirty EIA reports for various development including hotel and resorts, quarry, industrial and housing. She also involved in waste water treatment plant design, Environmental Management System (EMS) Audit, Environmental Management Plan (EMP), Schedule Waste Management and Due Diligence for SWM. She is currently the Deputy General Manager, R&D and Project Management of Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd., one of the largest SWM concessionaires in Malaysia. During her tenure in Alam Flora, which is more than 19 years, she has delivered various tasks and responsibilities including the 20-year SWM master plan, national SWM strategic plan, solid waste privatization plan, tariff and financial model, concession agreement, operations manual, SOPs development, waste treatment technology proposals, solid waste trainings and green technology initiatives. She was one of the key persons involved in the planning and implementation of the takeover activities of SWM from 24 Local Authorities in Selangor and Pahang which were successfully completed within 6 months in 1998. She was a member of the technical team which involved in the international tender for solid waste projects in the Middle East including Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Qatar. She was the head of Alam Flora Selangor Southern Region covering Putrajaya, MP Kajang, MP Sepang (including Cyberjaya and KLIA) and MD Kuala Langat from July 2007 to October 2008 managing public cleansing services and waste collection and disposal of more than 1000 tonnes daily. She is also the executive committee member and the Chairman of Training and Development Committee of Waste Management Association of Malaysia (WMAM). She was appointed as the Waste Technical Expert for Green Technology Financing Scheme(GTFS) under Greentech Corporation for proposal evaluation. She was also the subject matter expert for development of Malaysian Standards and National Occupational Skills Standards relevant to SWM.
