Shelley Smithson serves as Senior Legal Counsel, US Mega Projects for Sasol, an international integrated energy and chemical company and world leader in the commercial production of liquid fuels and chemicals from natural gas. As an integral member of Sasol‘s US Mega Projects team, Ms. Smithson is currently focused on the proposed construction of a world-scale ethane cracker and gas-to-liquids facility at Sasol’s Westlake site in Southwest Louisiana. Prior to joining Sasol, Ms. Smithson developed a reputation amongst her clients for being business savvy, providing practical legal guidance on the contractor side for KBR on various international and domestic hydrocarbons project transactions. Direct experience with both Owner and Contractor project teams, EPC contract expertise, and deep understanding of corporate integrity programs and anti-corruption issues have positioned Ms. Smithson as a trusted advisor in the gas and chemicals industry. Ms. Smithson is especially committed to the construction sector of the energy industry, as exemplified by her participation as a speaker at 2014’s Construction SuperConference; she is also actively involved with the Houston chapters of the Women’s Energy Network, National Association of Women MBA’s, Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, and the Association of Corporate Counsel.
