Thomas Braune is in charge of Munich Re’s life reinsurance business in Continental Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa. With more than 60 markets and over 700 clients, the Life Reinsurance division caters to a large range of developed and emerging markets, with offices in eight countries and a reinsurance premium volume of more than 1 billion euros. Prior to taking over the division, Thomas Braune reported directly to Munich Re’s CEO, being responsible for corporate strategy and organisation, corporate responsibility, Group-wide human resources management and the Group’s Economic Research department. For an interim period, he was also responsible for the worldwide health insurance (ex Germany) and reinsurance business of Munich Re Group, with a premium volume of more than 9 billion euros. Before becoming Head of Group Development, he was Chief Financial Officer at Munich Re Italy, Milan, prior to which he was in charge of the strategic investments at Munich Re, where his role included managing worldwide M&A activities in the insurance industry. Before joining Munich Re, Dr. Braune worked for an international law firm. Thomas Braune holds a law degree from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, a doctorate in tax law from Regensburg University and an MBA in financial services and insurance from the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland), Nyenrode Business University (Netherlands) and Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School (Belgium). He is married and has four children.
