Thomas earned his degree in Pharmaceutical Science in Germany where he started his career as head of an analytical lab at Boehringer Ingelheim. An assignment for leading the development of inhalation devices led eventually to becoming an R&D representative on project teams. Based on this experience he moved with Boehringer Ingelheim to the US where he helped build the R&D project management department and worked as R&D project lead on development products and in-licensing opportunities. 11years ago he joined Amgen as a global program manager responsible for a commercial product and various products in various stages of development ranging from pre-clinical to Phase 3. He helped evolve the Amgen program management system and led his team through two drug Advisory Committee meetings with the FDA. During this time, he worked with his teams to establish and oversee the execution of the strategic direction for the assigned programs. In mid 2012 he joined the regional leadership team for the Intercontinental region – responsible for portfolio management in Canada, Latin America, Turkey, Middle East, and Africa. He has been a leader to establish a regional governance model in that region which is being used as a model for other Amgen regions. Since earlier this year he added the responsibility for managing the US project management team.
