Anthony (Tony) Pooley is recognised as one of Australia‘s most respected risk management specialists. He is the CEO of Principle Seven and an adjunct Associate Professor in RiskManagement at the University of South Australia. He has just completed a 5-year period on the National Offshore Petroleum Safety & Environment Management Authority, advising the relevant Federal Minister and State Ministers on the effectiveness of NOPSEMA. Since arriving in Australia in 1982 Tony has created and sold his interests in two consulting firms, an Oil and Gas multidiscipline design firm (acquired by Fluor Daniel) and a Risk Management consultancy (acquired by GHD). Over the last two decades he has been a valued advisor on strategic, financial and ethical risk for a range of well known resource companies including Anglo Gold, BHP Billiton, Dyno Nobel, Exxon-Mobil, Glencore, Rio Tinto and Santos and he was a member of the Newcrest Mining Executive Committee with responsibility for risk from 2006-2008. In 2011 he founded Principle Seven and as the sole employee, provides risk management and strategic advice to senior management teams in regard to material corporate exposures. He occasionally works with an international law firm to undertake incident investigations under legal privilege. Tony was the creator of the experience-based quantification (EBQ) risk management methodologies including ‘SQRA’ and ‘Risk Assured’ which are used globally by the resources sector. He also jointly produced the world’s first stakeholder relations assessment and engagement software package with Dr Peter Sandman in the US. Facilitation of issues resolution workshops has been a constant part of his service offering and has involved a wide range of listed companies and occasionally, some state and federal agencies.
