Wouter is head of the project management group for the Infectious Diseases Department of the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) in Emeryville, California. After Wouter received his PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 1998 and a three year postdoctoral fellowship, he spent over 10 years in pharmaceutical research as Group Leader at N.V. Organon and subsequently as Senior Investigator working on drug discovery for Dengue Fever at the Novartis Institutes for Tropical Diseases (NITD) in Singapore. In 2010 Wouter took on the role of project manager for the Malaria Program at NITD, overseeing the preclinical and clinical development of two new classes of antimalarial compounds. In 2012 Wouter moved to California where he has been involved in establishing the Infectious Diseases Department of NIBR after its relocation from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to the Bay Area. Currently Wouter is leading a group of dedicated research project managers helping to effectively bring infectious diseases R&D projects from first inception to clinical proof-of-concept.
