Course description
Process Safety Management auditing is not only a compliance exercise. It is a key feedback mechanism used to verify whether process safety systems are working in practice, whether procedures are being followed, and whether hidden weaknesses could lead to major incidents.
This practical 2 half-day training provides a focused understanding of how to plan, conduct, evaluate and follow up on PSM audits in high-hazard process industries. The course helps participants move beyond checklist auditing toward a more structured, risk-based approach that assesses whether PSM systems, procedures, leadership practices and operational barriers are effective in real operating conditions.
The programme is aligned with the course’s focus on CCPS, EPSC, EU Seveso III, OSHA 1910.119 and company-specific PSM systems. Participants will examine the role of audits in the PSM feedback loop, the difference between system audits and implementation audits, how audit depth should reflect hazard level, and how findings should be rated, prioritized and translated into effective action plans.
The course combines methodology, industrial examples and discussion of participant questions. It is especially useful for teams that want to strengthen audit quality, identify gaps in risk management and safety barriers, improve communication of findings to management, and ensure audit outcomes lead to meaningful corrective action rather than paperwork alone.
